• grain size may be quite variable, from fine-grained to coarse-grained
• variable in color/tone from presence of other mineral chemistry, e.g., from pure white to gray, greenish, orangish,reddish, blackish (check out Image Galleries below).
• dominated by the mineral calcite, therefore reacts strongly to cold, dilute HCl
